Creating a user friendly blog

Blogging has become an integral part of most marketing strategies due to the importance of quality content in online success.

But for a blog to be successful, simply writing great content is not enough. You might have written the best informative piece in the world, but if it isn’t in a user-friendly format, it won’t reach a large audience.

So here are a few tips on how to create a user-friendly blog:

1. Use subheadings

Try to break up your blog posts into manageable sections. Remember you aren’t writing for a broadsheet – your content needs to be easily digestible – especially for people that are reading your posts on a tablet or smartphone.

Structuring your posts with subheadings will make your blog easier to navigate.

2. White space can be your friend

Write in short paragraphs – two to three sentences max and use line breaks. This can be extremely useful when you have written a blog with lots of information that might be difficult for the reader to take in.

You could also take the approach of introducing each idea in its own paragraph, rather than cramming multiple ideas in one big block of text.

3. Use bullet points

Here are a few reasons why bullet points are effective:

  • They are aesthetically pleasing.
  • They are a perfect way of presenting lists or points under the same idea.
  • They can help the reader digest said points.

4. Use imagery

All blog posts should ideally contain some type of image that’s relative to the content. This can make the post more interesting and can break up the post – making it easier to read for the user.

It’s important to link to other pages on your site with descriptive text.

This encourages readers not only to stay on your site, it’s also helpful for them to have further reading options and it can also help with your SEO.

Just remember that your link text needs to directly relate to what you are linking to.
